1986 – The non-profit Rancho Penasquitos Tennis Association was incorporated and approved by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a 501(c)(4) exempt organization.
1987 – The Rancho Penasquitos Tennis Center (RPTC) officially opened four courts in the spring of 1987 with 157 members.
2001 – In the summer of 2001, six new courts were built (10 total) and membership was limited to 350.
2011 – Following a long fundraising effort, two new courts were completed early in 2012 making RPTC a 12-court facility with just under 400 memberships. (Note that the membership limit is periodically adjusted by the RPTC board.).
2013 – IRS and the State of California approved RPTC to change its status to a 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization effective as of 2012.
2017 – The United States Tennis Association honored RPTC as one of 12 winners in the 36th annual USTA Facility Awards program, which recognizes excellence in the construction and/or renovation of tennis facilities throughout the country.
2020 – Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all city parks were briefly closed and RPTC discontinued operation from March 16 – May 29. The club was able to reopen by following county health mandates with masks and temperature check requirements and heavy restrictions. These restrictions were gradually fully lifted by the Fall of 2021.
2022 – A new, more robust shade structure requiring the addition of 14 large shade sails and 12 8” support poles was completed on the upper patio in May. This shade structure replaces the original shade structure that lasted for more than 20 years.
